While cigarette smoking has been on the decline, many alternative tobacco and nicotine delivery products have been gaining popularity. Many of these products are perceived to be safer substitutes for cigarettes. However, these products still pose serious health risks due to the chemicals and toxins they contain.
What is hookah? A hookah is a water pipe used to smoke tobacco through cooled water. When smoking hookah, charcoal heats the tobacco in the head of the pipe, and then smoke is filtered and cooled through water at the base before being inhaled through a hose.
E-cigarette use, or vaping, has grown dramatically in the last five years, particularly among high school students. In Oklahoma, 19% of high school students use e-cigarettes — that’s more than adults. It’s so popular that high school students are vaping more than smoking regular cigarettes.
